A Day On The Coach

Sunrise this morning was just phenomenal.

And the view from the front of the lodge.

Today we have an 8 hour drive back north west and into the Namib Desert.  This stretches 1,200kms from South Africa up into Angola and the scenery changes constantly so makes for a very interesting, if long, journey.  Unfortunately snapping photos through the coach window just doesn't really work.

A couple more flowers from a (bush) loo stop.

And this hoof - no other remains.

But we did manage to persuade Carlos to stop for a couple of views.

Once again it was late afternoon when we arrived at Desert Quiver Camp, a lovely setting in the middle of nowhere.  The accommodation here is once again excellent and so beautifully designed.

Individual chalets, well spaced and a central pool/bar area.

It is essentially aimed at the self-drive/self-catering market and each chalet has a BBQ and a mini outside kitchen, one can buy/hire all the necessary equipment and food packs.

2km along the road is another property in the same group and this has a very large eating area so we went there for dinner on the first night.

Salad buffet for starters then BBQ and the choice was amazing; several types of fish (kingklip was particularly delicious), chicken and then meats of every living creature in the area including Warthog, Blue Wildebeest and Kudu.

With practically no light pollution the night sky was just amazing and as it was still quite mild I spent an hour or so trying to photograph the Milky Way.
