The first leg of our journey is Heathrow to Johannesburg, an 11 hour flight - yuk! We leave UK 20:05 arriving 08:05 (1hr+ time difference) and unusually it's an overnight flight both ways. Hopefully we will be able to get a few hours sleep as we've not managed much in the last couple of weeks. We have to change terminals in Jo'burg and I just hope it's a little more "user friendly" than the last time we transited (en route to Botswana).
We allowed plenty of time to get to Heathrow which was a good job as there was rather heavy traffic and we had to come off the M25 at J14 and wiggle our way through the Heathrow complex to T3 Long Stay Parking. A lot of the parking area was being dug up so we were directed to a Zone far away but by asking directions from some workers we were luckily given a space much closer. We then had a long (25 min) wait for the shuttle bus and a very rough ride to the terminal (via T2), so all in all probably our worst experience of Heathrow parking to date.
But now we've had a smooth check-in, Fast Track through security (although our entry co-incided with a change of shift so everything ground to a halt) and we're in the same Club Aspire Lounge we used in January but lunch/dinner isn't anywhere near as good as breakfast and we have 4 rather annoying, early 30s Northern lasses whose bags need to sit on seats and mobiles are on loudspeaker whilst speaking to hubby and kids.
Why oh why can't folk just have a wee bit of consideration for other people - I am most definitely a GOW - grumpy old woman!
